While filling older kids’ stockings with adorable toys and sweet treats can be easy, coming up with infant stocking stuffer ideas can be more of a challenge. You do have to avoid traditional things like candy canes and chocolates, but there are lots of great gift ideas to make the youngest member of your family smile with delight on Christmas morning. Use this handy shopping guide as inspiration as you play the part of Santa Claus this year.

Chunky Board Books

Board books are great stocking stuffers for infants with their brightly colored pages and easy-to-hold designs. Look for books with flaps for a more interactive reading experience or opt for touch-and-feel board books to let your baby explore different textures during story time. Choosing a few different books can be a quick and easy way to fill up your little one’s stocking.

Teething Toys

Teething toys keep babies busy during playtime while also helping soothe gums as teeth start to break through. Water-filled teethers are perfect for helping fussy infants through some of the pain of teething, and textured teethers provide textile stimulation. Designs with grips or handles, such as teething key rings, make it easy for baby to hold the teethers and self-soothe as needed.

Bath Toys for Babies

Give your little one a fun gift to make bath time easier and finish filling his or her stocking. Floating wind-up toys keep baby entertained while you clean behind ears and wash hair, and simple floating boats can also bring great fun. Be sure to look for bath toys without holes to avoid mold growth as you shop. You may also want to purchase a mesh bath toy bag to keep the bathroom clean and keep your baby’s new bath toys dry and organized.

Stuffies/Stuffed Animals

Cuddly and cute, stuffies make great stocking fillers for babies. As you shop, be sure to look for stuffed animals without plastic eyes or other potential choking hazards. Stuffies with rattles are ideal for sensory stimulation, and designs with small attached security blankets are perfect for snuggling at naptime. If this is baby’s first Christmas, consider a stuffie that’s personalized with his or her name for a special keepsake.

Snacks for Babies

If your little one is old enough to start eating purees or some solid foods, consider adding snacks for babies to the stocking in lieu of candy. Puree pouches in fun, fruity flavors are perfect infant stocking stuffer ideas, and bags of yogurt melts are great for babies around 8 months or older. You can also fill the stocking up with tubes of cereal puffs or a box of teething biscuits. Avoid purchasing any baby snacks with ingredients your little one hasn’t tried before to help avoid any food allergies or sensitivities over the holidays.

Don’t be afraid to put your own twist on Christmas stockings this year. You can even start a tradition based on these ideas. For example, you might give your baby a board book this year and start a tradition of adding a book to his or her stocking for years to come.
